How NOT to keep Visitors at Your Web Site

The less time your visitors are on your site, the less time you have to get them to buy your service/product or click your ads. Here are 7 way to make visitors leave your site.

  1. Don’t use headlines or sub headlines, they will attract your visitors attention and keep them on your site longer.
  2. Make your website look unprofessional, and make several typos and have bad grammar. Your visitors will get turned off and leave your site.
  3. Put lots of big images and videos on your site and whatever else you can to make it load really slow, they will get sick of waiting.
  4. Make a ton of surveys and ads pop up in their face.
  5. Copy your content from other websites.
  6. Make what your site is offering a mystery, make them read a lot to find out why they should even be there.
  7. Have your text really small and bright colors, make the formatting all random.

JGAs Tag Web

I have finished re-making this website for keeping your bookmarks online. Now you can actually tag your bookmarks. I have also created a karma system for the public bookmarks. Bookmarks can now be easily browsed through with the new sorting options such as sorting by newest, popular, best rated, most rated, worst rated, and most rated. You can view JGAs Tag Web here.

Search Engine Optimization

Before we start let me point out that I am no expert at search engine optimization. I have not been optimizing for very long and probably not very good at it. But here are some things that I have found out in my experience.

Keyword Density is very important, having your chosen keywords in the title tag and in the content can get you ranked high in the search engines. Title tags are very important and should be different for every page of your website.

As far as I can tell, keywords and description meta tags do not make much of a difference in search engines. From what I’ve heard, some search engines completely ignore the meta tags.

Having unique content is one of the most important things. Never copy content from other websites. Search engines, such as Google, reward websites that have unique content.

Back-links are also very important. The more back-links you have, the more search engines will take notice of you. But, if you have back-links from “bad neighborhoods” or link farms it can damage your rank.

Page loading time can play a big role in traffic. If your website takes longer than 3 seconds to load, some visitors may be closing it instead of waiting for the page to load. I suggest a minimal usage of graphics.

Make sure all of your pages are linked together so that search engines can easily find all of your pages. Sometimes it can be helpful to include a site map on your website.

Using your keywords in header tags is another good thing to do. It is best for the title to also be a header on your page.

Include your keywords in your file or folder name, for example, if I had a page about cell phones it would be good for it to be called “cell_phones.html” or “/cell_phones/index.html”.

If you have a dynamic website made with PHP, it is a great idea to use URL rewriting to optimize the URL for search engines. If you had a page like “index.php?id=contact_us” you could rewrite it to “contact_us.html”.

And lastly, having your keywords in your domain name is very good. If you had a website about hot rods, “hot-rods.com” would be a very good domain name.

I hope this article helps you a lot to understand search engine optimization and how to optimize your website, thank you for reading.

XSTATUS Status Bars

The other day, one of my friends told me about a tool called XStatus and sent me a link.

When I followed the link, I saw that you could easily create a forum bar that displays your online/offline status for AIM(AOL Instant Messenger), MSN Messenger, ICQ, Yahoo Messenger, and Skype all in a single signature image.

It even gives you the code to easily place in your forum signature.

It also allows you to pick a custom background for each individual status bar.

If you do not wish to include one of the status bars, just leave the info blank.

If you do not have or know your MSN ID then I suggest you visit the help page before you start creating your XStatus bar.

To create your XStatus bar you just go though the easy step-by-step setup and get your code and a preview at the end.

XStatus has proved itself usefull with over one thousand status bars created.

Weird Typing

This is a neat little program that I have made to make you type in a weird way and make you look like you have good typing skills.

Weird Typing

It has two modes:

  1. Opposite mode: This mode will make every other letter capitalized. (Example: “ThE QuIcK BrOwN FoX JuMpS OvEr tHe lAzY DoG.”)
  2. Random mode: This mode will make random letters capitalized. (Example: “the quick BRoWN fox jUmPs OVER the lazy doG.”)

Weird Typing was made in Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition and requires the .NET framework.

Features:

  • Can be minimized to the system tray.
  • Low CPU usage.
  • Works in almost every program and game.

Known Issues:

  • Hot keys may conflict with some programs.
